May 18, 2022 – Celero is proud to announce we are the Presenting Sponsor of a unique technology training, mentorship and employment program dedicated to the Indigenous Community.
SAGE TECHWORK is a 12-week in-depth training program aimed at providing participants with certification in quality assurance (QA) and software testing. The program is being piloted in Calgary by students in Treaty 7 First Nation.
Calgary-based Business and Technology organization Levvel Inc., along with Community Futures Treaty Seven and Eagle Spirit Business Development launched the program in May as a solution for the technology skill shortage in Calgary and the influx of technology start-ups and companies in the region.
“Eagle Spirit Business Development is very excited to partner with SAGE TECHWORK with this step towards economic reconciliation. Indigenous peoples are under-represented in the technology industry, and this partnership opens the door for skilled Indigenous workers in Alberta’s booming tech sector,” says Jeremy Thompson, President, Eagle Spirit Business Development.
Developing Core Competencies and Technical Skills
The program, which was modelled after a successful QA and Software Testing program in Rwanda, focuses not only on the technical training and skills required by the technology industry, but it also encompasses the core competencies necessary for business career success.
Unlike traditional education, TECHWORK graduates are job-ready, have job placement support, and will receive on-going program coaching during the first 12 weeks of employment, addressing the challenges of workplace integration.
“Companies highly value talent who can keep learning new technology. SAGE TECHWORK partners with Indigenous talent to develop their own competencies, to amplify the ways of learning and working that bring quality to the software development industry,” says Dr. Michael Pucci, Program Director, SAGE TECHWORK.
For Celero, this program aligns with our organizational core values, our focus on contributing to enabling success in a digital economy through technical skill development and opportunities, as well as our diversity, equity and inclusion journey.
“SAGE TECHWORK is an important step forward in creating more inclusion and equity within the technology industry, and we are committed to enabling its success. We are excited to participate in the journey and contribute to the growth and empowerment of each candidate as they gain valuable and in-demand skills,” says Richard Hannah, CEO, Celero.
Celero will provide support throughout the program as well as opportunities for students to participate in paid internships in quality assurance and software testing.
